FRIEND IS A FOUR LETTER WORD

 

 

So, in honor of the Release of "Friend is a Four Letter Word" I wanted to do a blog a little bit about my experience creating this cover/ promo package for Steph Campbell.

 

Steph was recommended to me by Allie Brennan, a mutual friend, when she couldn't find exactly what she was looking for in stock photography. From day one I felt like Steph and me clicked creativity, and like we were on the same page with the concept. 

 

Once we established the mood, setting, and ideas I contacted the models she wanted for the cover. Steph loved Chad Feyrer & Madison Wayne, who I had done a portfolio shoot with previously, they are absolutely awesome together and so professional, its honestly a dream working with the two of them! I think a shoot like this could get really raunchy really fast, but since I am not a huge fan of that and that's not what Steph's novel is about,  I did my best to try to keep it classy while still maintaining the chemistry between the characters in her story.

 

I was so glad that once Steph saw the proofs she felt like I brought her story to life and she ending up choosing my favorite image for the cover!!!

 I was also very lucky to collaborate with a good friend of mine from college, Danielle Styles,

 on the typography and Cover Design. She has an very clean but unique approach and it ended up being just what Steph wanted for her cover.

Book Covers of 2013

 

 

 

Last year around this time I decided I wanted to try my hand at New Adult/ Young adult book covers. So I did my research and read over 200 books in this genre, I really fell in love with it, and I started my book cover portfolio at the end of the summer. I never expected to get any work until 2014, but I was super blessed to work with some great authors who decided to take a chance on me and I gained not only new clients but new friends as well. I had so much fun working on covers this year and I cannot wait for what next year brings!

 

 

Passengers of Ego CD cover was my first job, it goes along with

the I Surrender series by Monica James, Released October 2013.

 

 

Songbird by Lisa Edwards was one of my first official book covers

 and was released November 2013.

 

 

Tight Knit was actually a collaboration between me and B Designs,

this is the re-release/ anniversary edition of the book for

Allie Brennan, December 2013.

 

I am a huge fan of Alla Kar's books and it was such an great experience

 to work with her on the cover for Stroke of Fear, November 2013.

 

Working with Melissa Delgado was wonderful to collaborate with

along with her designer friend Nelani Palomino. we also got to work with a

very talented musician, Dan Tillery, as the cover model. Releases in Spring 2014.

 

I was so honored that Steph Campbell chose to work with me and

my designer friend Danielle Styles on her new book cover, 

Friend is a Four Letter Word, Releases January 2014.

 

 

 

 

 I also got the opportunity to collaborate with an very talented designer Najla Qamber Designs on Premade Covers, and I look forward to working with her more in 2014. "Ending a Torn Past" Cover Reveal

 

Today is the Cover Reveal for Melissa Delgado's new book "Ending a Torn Past",

It will be Released in the Spring as Ebook & Paper back the official date is TBA.

This book is apart of The Journey Series, but can be read as a

Stand-alone as well and is in completely Male POV.

 

 

 

It was such a blast working with Melissa on this cover, she had a vision for her character and I was so happy to have brought Jax Dean to life. Melissa is such a kind person and I feel like we really can relate, on a creative level and as a friends. I found Dan Tillery as the model for Jax  (the Male character) and Melissa not only fell in love with his look for her character but also his music. Dan Tillery is a local musician in Detroit, with a unique  sound, if you get a chance check out his music on sound cloud, he is defiantly going places! Dan was also a very easy/ awesome model to work with, he took direction well and we had a lot of laughs.

Jax Dean is suppose to be a funny guy/ playboy who has a few secrets and I wanted to show

that with a photo booth type cameo that introduced the readers to Jaxon Dean.

 

I also got the chance to collaborate with Graphic designer Nelani Palomino, she is a friend of Melissa's and did a great job creating the Spread for the book. I am a huge fan of collaborating with other artist and bouncing ideas off each other to make some great images.

Metro Times Gift Guide 2013

I am super excited that my photography will be featured in Metro Times this week!!!

I did this shoot a little over a year ago for Rachel Lutz's Shop/ Boutique, The Peacock Room, and I am so excited to see it published!

 I absolutely love working with Rachel Lutz and what she is all about. If you know Rachel then you would know that she is a amazing person who not only runs 2 shops in the Park Shelton, but goes out of her way to help others and make Detroit the place to be.

I  am also so in love with her shops, The Peacock Room & Emerald, and I shop there when ever I get a chance. I have always loved accessories and clothing with a vintage feel and a modern twist  and Rachel has impeccable taste. If you get a chance check out The Peacock Room & Emerald located in the Park Shelton right next to the DIA.

Songbird

Lisa Edward , Austrian debut author of Songbird, decided to go with me for her cover photographer and designer, it was a very amazing experience. Lisa wasn't happy with the stock images she found and wanted something unique, that better fit her story. She was recommended to me by Monica James and now I will be creating her 3 book series of covers!

This being the first time I did a whole spread on a tight deadline helped me learn quite fast what all goes into creating an cover. I loved working with Lisa, she is so involved and always had great ideas/ suggestions, she knows what she wants and it was great to be able to bring her character to life!
I got to work with a very talent model, Megan George, on this shoot and she not only brought this character to life but provided the location for the shoot at her grandparent's place.

 


I also created promotional photos and a teaser for Songbird to help further tell the character's story.
Songbird is the first of her 3 part series and already is doing really well with early readers, make sure to check out the blurb on GoodReads for Songbird , and defiantly add it to your To-Read list!

 

The e-book will be released on Amazon on the 25th of November, and the paperback will be available  shortly after!

"Stroke of Fear"

 

 

I was lucky enough to get a chance to work with one of my favorite authors, Alla Kar, to help her create the Cover for her new stand-alone novel "Stroke of Fear".

After I read her Forever Series I fell in love with her work and the way she writes, it draws the reader in and I couldn't stop reading until I finished the books. I was so happy that I got the chance to work with Alla on her new stand-alone novel, that she originally had written as a Young Adult novel a while back, and just released it as a New Adult Novel.

 

Doing this shoot was a lot of fun I felt like Alla and me were on the same page from the start and  everything fell into place, we were able to bring her vision to life with the help of models Mark & Madison. The models did such a great job bringing passion and tension to the shoot even though it was their first time meeting, and although it looks like summer it was very much Fall and they powered through the cold with ease. 

 

 

I also created some Teasers and Promotional images from the shoot as a continuation of their story.

Passengers of Ego

I am a huge fan of  Monica James's I Surrender Book Series, and I was lucky enough to get to work on the CD she made to go along with her books!
In her books the main character, Jasper White, is in a band called Passengers of Ego, and Monica decided to do something completely new by creating an original CD for the band to go along with her books.
It was wonderful working with Monica on this project and she was very open to my thoughts and Ideas, I really enjoyed bring Jasper White to life through my concepts for the shoot and a wonderful model Anthony Hamelin.

I wanted to create a series to tell a short story of his creative process; from his complicated  relationship with Ava, his love interested in the books and his inspiration, to creating his music and getting out his feelings and frustrations. 

These images will be in the interior of the CD/ the creative process mini series:

 

 


I also provided a few other images for promotional use such as postcards that Monica used for signings.
